The inspiration behind Datelite came from a desire to help busy families remember and celebrate their special moments. The lamp is always partially illuminated, but on significant days such as birthdays and anniversaries, the halo of light spreads farther across the wall, illuminating the room with a bright glow. If the occasion slips your mind, a simple rotation of the lamp reveals a hidden display with a gentle reminder.
Datelite stands out from other lighting designs due to its unique interaction with the user. The lamp is not just a source of light, but a tool for memory recall and family connection. The design process involved sketches, foam models, and eventually 2D and 3D rendering programs, resulting in a product that is as elegant as it is functional.
The lamp measures 350mm x 350mm x 100mm and is digital. It is always partially illuminated, but lights up fully on meaningful days. If the lamp is fully illuminated and the occasion has been forgotten, the user can rotate the lamp counterclockwise to dim the light and reveal the event on a simple display.
The project started in the summer of 2014 and underwent extensive design changes before it was completed in the summer of 2016. The most challenging aspect of the project was programming the computer for the initial prototype and integrating an iPhone application interface. However, the effort was well worth it, resulting in a product that not only illuminates a room but also brightens memorable moments.
Datelite has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology. With Datelite, Cody Moore has indeed made life brighter.
